Chris Garavito is the owner of PAR Physical Therapy, a clinic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with 2 locations, 3 physical therapists, and 2 PTAs.
PT Wired has helped Chris and his team improve access to care for their patients while also growing their business.
Since implementing remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM) a few years ago, PAR Physical Therapy has seen a $100 increase in revenue per completed plan of care and improved patient engagement in their clinic.
Chris first encountered PT Wired about 7 years ago at a conference in Florida. “I met the owner, Vikram, and I haven’t looked back since then,” he said. Even before RTM became a reimbursable service, he was already using PT Wired as part of his practice workflow. So when RTM was introduced, the transition felt natural.
“It was just an easy integration for us,” he explained. “Why not maximize your profit, especially if it’s something that you’re already tracking? Home exercise compliance is such a big thing for the progression of our patients and their overall outcomes.”
Thanks to PT Wired, tracking and billing for RTM is efficient and easy for Chris’ therapists. “It’s just a matter of tracking, and it's a very simple way to increase your revenue per plan of care,” he said.
At PAR Physical Therapy, their usual patient cycle is 12-14 visits. Since implementing RTM, Chris said their revenue per plan of care has gone up by $100.
“Which, if you’re getting 10 new patients a week, the math works out very simply. An extra thousand dollars for anyone that’s allowed to have RTMs for not an extra thousand dollars worth of man hours. To me, that’s very worth it,” he said.
One of the biggest wins for PAR Physical Therapy has been improved patient engagement. “To my knowledge, there’s no other PT clinic in our area that has PT Wired,” Chris said. The branding alone makes their clinic stand out to their patients. But beyond aesthetics, it’s the experience that patients remember.
“They love how super simple it is,” he said. From tech-savvy adolescents to more traditional geriatric patients, the platform adapts. “Some people still like the paper printouts, but I’d say 95% of people are very comfortable using the app.”
Patients particularly enjoy the motivational features. “They love getting their little awards for when they’re compliant with their home exercise program. They love their trophies,” Chris said.
And for repeat patients, who might be recovering from different injuries over time, PT Wired’s ability to manage multiple custom exercise plans has been a game-changer. “To be able to delineate what exercises they have [for different plans of care] has made their lives a lot easier,” Chris said.
On the clinic side, Chris acknowledges there was a learning curve when implementing RTM. “Getting the verbiage down properly is important,” he said, but PT Wired helped by connecting his team with others who had successfully navigated the same path.
Their PT/PTA team structure also is a perfect match for RTM tracking. “Our PTAs are doing a lot of the tracking. The billing does come via the PTs, but it makes our workflow a lot easier,” he explained.
“ But I feel like at this point, if we had to teach other clinics or integrate new clinicians, it’s been a very seamless process now that we’ve been in it,” he said.
Chris’s clinic also uses Prompt, which integrates directly with PT Wired. “We use Prompt after working with PT Wired,” he explained. “The integration between the 2 of them is so seamless.”
For clinicians, this means real-time updates to a patient’s home exercise program with just a click, directly from the EMR.
“It’s a perfect marriage,” he said. “As one platform is upgrading, the other is continuing to update too, so that there’s no disconnect between your home exercise program and your EMR.”
By using the right technology, Chris has been able to expand his practice while staying true to the needs of both patients and providers. PT Wired and Prompt have been integral partners in that journey, helping PAR Physical Therapy maintain exceptional care, improve patient outcomes, and increase revenue.
For those considering RTM or debating the value of digital platforms, Chris' advice is clear: “The patients love it. It’s a lot better than the stick figures. And for clinicians, yes, there’s a little bit of a learning curve with it, absolutely. But to be able to generate some more revenue per visit or more revenue for a plan of care, it's absolutely worth it.”
